Bangs, fringe and the words people use
“Bangs” is the American word and “fringe” the British one. Both mean the hair that falls over the forehead. When you ask for them, the type matters more than the word:
- Blunt bangs: one straight line across the forehead.
- See-through bangs (시스루뱅): thin and light, so the forehead shows through.
- Curtain bangs: parted in the middle and swept to each side.
- Side-swept bangs: long and angled across one side of the forehead.
- Short or baby bangs: cut high on the forehead.
A photo is the fastest way to show which one you want.
A cheap, fast fix, or a full new look
At ₩10,000 the bangs cut is the lowest-priced cut on the WENEED menu. It makes sense for two situations. One is a trim, when your bangs have grown into your eyes between haircuts. The other is a first fringe, when you want to test a style without changing the rest of your hair.
If you want a full cut as well, see the women’s haircut page. The bangs cut is its own item on the menu, so tell the designer if you want it in addition to a regular cut.
Will bangs suit you?
A few practical points decide it more than any rule:
- Forehead height and hairline: a cowlick or a widow’s peak can make blunt bangs lift. Side-swept or curtain bangs usually handle that better.
- Hair texture: wavy or curly hair makes bangs bounce up when dry. Cut them longer and allow for shrinkage.
- Glasses: bangs that touch the frames get oily and messy. Ask for a length that clears them.
- Climate and sweat: in humid summer weather, bangs can separate. Keep a small comb with you.
The face-shape cut page discusses how outline and fringe work together.

Preparing for a first fringe
Cutting bangs takes hair from the front and top. Before you decide, ask yourself whether you will style them daily. They need a minute with a dryer on most mornings. If you cannot commit to that, ask for a softer, longer version.
Bring a photo of the exact bangs you want, and one that shows your forehead and hairline clearly. Tell the designer the shortest length you accept. A bangs cut cannot be undone, and growing them out takes weeks.
Bangs with a perm or a layered cut
The menu also lists a bangs perm and a bangs magic treatment. Both are on Jin’s price sheet. A perm curls the fringe so it falls in a soft arc instead of a straight edge. Read the Korean perm page for how perms work in general, and ask Jin for these items. For a haircut with face-framing layers, see the layered cut page.
