Bleaching black Asian hair in Korea

Black Asian hair can be bleached to a much lighter color, but it usually needs more than one session and careful aftercare, and the designer judges how far your hair can safely go. At WENEED Haeundae, bleach is ₩100,000 on Jin’s price sheet; the final price depends on length and condition.

What bleach does to dark hair

Bleach removes natural pigment from hair. Black or very dark brown hair holds a lot of pigment, and as it is lifted it passes through warm stages such as red, orange and yellow before it reaches pale yellow or near-blonde. This is why dark hair cannot usually go to a pale blonde in one quick step.

Each step also stresses the hair, because bleach opens the cuticle and removes some of its internal structure. That is why a careful plan matters more than speed.

Why more than one session is common

For a big change, such as black to pale blonde, designers often split the work into several visits so the hair has time to recover. The number depends on your hair and the target shade. Many people reach a light brown or a golden tone in one session, while pale or ash blonde often takes more than one.

Tell the designer your target with photos, and ask how many sessions are realistic. If you are on a trip, tell them how many days you have. A plan that fits your dates may need a softer target. See the double bleach page for two-round work.

What affects the result

  • Natural color. The darker the starting color, the more steps are usually needed.
  • Previous dye. Black dye on the hair is harder to lift than natural black, and it can leave patchy tones.
  • Hair condition. Dry, previously permed or straightened hair is riskier.
  • Thickness. Thick hair may lift unevenly.
  • Target shade. Light and pastel shades need a very light base.
  • Time between sessions. Rushing a second round raises the risk of breakage, so designers often leave a gap.

Prepare before you go

  • Note every dye, bleach, perm and straightening, with dates.
  • Bring photos of the shade you want in daylight.
  • Avoid new chemical services for a short time before bleaching, unless the designer says otherwise.
  • Do not skip conditioner in the weeks before. Healthy hair lifts more evenly, and a calm scalp is more comfortable during the service.

Think about the upkeep too: bleached roots grow in dark quickly, so a lighter shade needs regular root work, such as the root touch-up from ₩60,000. Be honest about past home dye. Hidden dye is a common reason for surprising results. Read the bleach page for the service details.

Aftercare for bleached hair

Bleached hair is more porous. General advice: use a gentle shampoo, a rich conditioner or mask, and low heat. Expect warm yellow tones to return over time, and ask the designer how to manage that. For dry, rough hair, ask about a care service such as the Drama care (₩140,000) or the hair clinic. We make no medical claims and cannot promise a result.

WENEED Haeundae is open daily 10:00–20:00, 71 m from Jangsan Station Exit 5. The salon is on the 2nd floor, reached by stairs only.
