Do you tip at a hair salon in Korea?
No, tipping is not a normal custom at hair salons in Korea, and the price you agree is the price you pay. Policies can vary between salons, so look at the menu and confirm the total before the work starts.

The usual custom
In Korea, service workers are paid wages and prices already include service. Hair salons follow the same custom, so guests do not usually add a tip on top of the bill. Offering a tip is not seen as rude, but it can cause confusion, and some designers may politely decline.
This is a general description. We cannot speak for every salon, and for WENEED Haeundae we do not publish a tipping rule. If you are unsure, ask the designer or the salon before you pay.
What you pay for instead
The total at a Korean salon is made of the service price, which depends on the designer, hair length and condition, and sometimes extra items. The WENEED menu shows it clearly: “from” means the lowest price on the menu, and the designer confirms the final price before starting.
Examples from the WENEED Haeundae menu, to give you a sense of what the bill looks like:
- Women’s cut: ₩25,000.
- Women’s shampoo + cut: ₩38,000.
- Standard perm: from ₩75,000.
- Women’s full-head color: from ₩85,000.
These are one salon’s prices. See the full price list.
Prices in Korea are generally shown in won, and a menu often lists a starting price with a note that length and condition change the total. Hair that is long, thick or damaged usually costs more than short, healthy hair for the same service, because it takes more product and more time.
Ways to say thank you without tipping
Tipping is not part of the culture, but gratitude still matters. If you were happy with the visit, there are customary ways to show it that do not involve money:
- A clear thank-you and a smile when you leave. Bowing slightly is common, but not required.
- Recommending the salon to friends.
- Coming back to the same designer.
- Sharing your own photos, if you are comfortable doing so, with the designer’s agreement.
We do not publish reviews on this site, and nothing here asks you to write one.
Before you pay: what to confirm
- The service list: for example cut only, or cut with a treatment.
- The total, including any add-ons such as a down perm or a bangs trim.
- The designer, because some prices are on one designer’s price sheet only.
A common source of surprise is an extra service added during the visit. If a designer suggests something new, ask for the price first. The guide to hair salon prices in Korea explains what changes a bill.
Other customs to know
A few habits are useful for first-time visitors:
- Salons are often calm places, and phone calls are usually taken outside or quietly.
- Bags and coats usually go in a designated place or on a chair, not on the work area.
- It is normal to show photos of the style you want.
- Arriving a few minutes early is polite, and being late can shorten the time your designer has for you.
Gifts are also not expected. If you want to give something small, a simple thank-you is enough, and the salon is not obliged to accept anything. For more detail, see the Korean hair salon etiquette guide.
